Ladies finger /Benda Chakko

Chakko mostly prepare with raw jack fruit (Idichakka).  But raw jack fruit is a seasonal vegetable.  So in our home we make chakko  with  benda ( ladies finger). This is Konkani   dry  side dish   its often eaten with rice and dali toy (dal)  .


Ladies finger           --    ½ kg

Coconut grated       --     ½  cup 

Red chilly                --     10  to 15

Salt                          --   as per your taste

Oil for cooking

For masala

Coriander seeds      --       2 tsp

Urad dal                   --       3tsp


Wash the ladies finger   and let them dry for sometime or  dry them with cloth. Then cut in to round slices.Heat  half tsp oil in a pan  add  coriander seeds fry for 2 min then add 2 and half tsp of urad  dal  fry till light brown  fry all this in low flame other wise it will burn.Grind   grated coconut   and red chilly   into      paste adding little water   then add fried dal and coriander and grind it for  2 to 3 round in mixer.Heat oil in kadai add half tsp of urad dal  when it turns  brown add  ladies finger fry it for 5 min.  Then add masala  mix well  and little water for cook ladies fingers. Cook till it dry
